Day 39 – The Queen Elizabeth II Ottawa Spoon

Although she officially ascended the throne when her father passed away on February 6, 1952, Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary officially, for reals, became Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth and Defender of the Faith on February 8, 1952. She received her oath at 10 am in Saint James Palace and then at 11 am the accession proclamation was read to the public in Trafalgar Square in London.

In honor of the official accession proclamation day, here’s a spoon commemorating the Queen’s visit to Ottawa in October 1957 to open the 23rd Canadian Parliament. Go Canada!
